WATCH: Harvesting and "Leatherizing" Water Hyacinths

My partner social enterprise Jacinto & Lirio has filmed these short but very informative videos that demonstrate how their water hyacinths are harvested and "leatherized" before turning them into super functional journals/planners and travel wallets among other things. They give us a glimpse of the amount of work put into these processes which is, for me, always a compelling sight to behold. I also love the fact that the clips focused on the workers themselves. Getting to know these workers and listening to them talk about their stories MATTER!    VIDEO 1: Harvesting Water Hyacinths   VIDEO 2: Leatherizing Water Hyacinths  ...

Reflections on Giving

Photo owned by Raw Pixel Before Giving Week officially ends, I thought I’d post something more personal on the subject. This entry was inspired by Giving Tuesday.org’s #MyGivingStory contest but I’m not submitting this officially. I personally find writing reflective pieces therapeutic (or maybe it’s just an excuse to write another verbose blog entry which I can’t help doing!) 6 Weaving Instagram Accounts That I Absolutely Love

6 Weaving Instagram Accounts That I Absolutely Love

In the Philippines, weaving is deeply ingrained in the culture of various indigenous communities. It's like a sacred family heirloom passed on from generation to generation. This tradition is such a significant aspect of our identity that some social enterprises in the country have vowed to help preserve traditional Philippine handloom weaving (my partner brand Habi Batangan is one of them!). That said, I’ve always revered weaving as the premier art form simply because of how valuable it is to my culture. I appreciate how social media has made weaving more accessible and personal to a lot of people. Instagram...

Featured Product: The Luna Bag

The Lily PH is a Philippines-based brand which creates handcrafted fashion items and even homewares made of dried water hyacinth. One product which happens to be a personal favorite of mine is the Luna handbag! While it may probably be a little bit underwhelming to those who love bright and vibrant patterns, its minimalist style is the exact reason why I fell in love with this piece! Besides that, I can name more reasons why this handbag is a must-have!   1. The size is just right. Just right for carrying your essentials, that is. I wouldn’t want to bring...
